LeaseWeb Supports the Apache Software Foundation as a Platinum Sponsor

Hosting infrastructure supports more than 300 of ASF’s core clouds across the US and the Netherlands whilst supporting the work of the open source platform developers across the world

Amsterdam 12 may 2016 – LeaseWeb, one of the world’s largest hosting brands, announced today that it has become a Platinum Sponsor of the Apache Software Foundation (ASF). The sponsorship agreement also allows the ASF to use LeaseWeb’s hosting solutions to set up large amounts of infrastructure across the US and the Netherlands.

Robert van der Meulen, Manager Cloud of LeaseWeb says: “It is fantastic to be a platinum sponsor of the ASF, in support of more than 300 existing Apache projects. Through our network of data centers, hosted servers and cloud infrastructure we provide the maximum uptime to keep the ASF development community happy round the clock.”

The ASF is the nonprofit underpinning of volunteer developers and software experts who have created hundreds of the world’s best-known applications, including Apache CloudStack, Hadoop, Cassandra, and the Apache HTTP Web Server. Now, all Apache projects will benefit from the CloudStack-based LeaseWeb Cloud, allowing developers access to the tools they need to continue working on their groundbreaking software projects.

As part of its Platinum Sponsorship, LeaseWeb will provide the Apache Software Foundation access to the LeaseWeb Cloud portfolio, comprising Public Cloud as well as Private Cloud powered by Apache CloudStack, and VMware-based private cloud solutions.

“The Platinum Sponsorship also allows us to learn from some of the top names in the IT community. We fully support the work of the open source development community and by providing our resources, we aim to keep their efforts alive,” commented Van der Meulen. ASF Sponsorship benefits the Open Source community at-large by helping bolster existing projects, incubate new initiatives, and promote meritocratic, community-driven development 'The Apache Way'.

LeaseWeb is the latest organization to join current ASF Platinum-level individual and corporate sponsors Cloudera, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Pivotal, and Yahoo, who, along with 7 Gold-level, 12 Silver-level, and 7 Bronze-level sponsors, help offset the ASF's day-to-day operating expenses.

Approximately two-thirds of the ASF's annual budget is dedicated to keeping Apache Infrastructure running critical support services around the clock with 99%+ uptime over the past year (http://status.apache.org/sla). The ASF Infrastructure team is distributed on four continents, handles more than 10,000 requests per quarter, and is actively improving Apache monitoring, logging, reporting, and build services, with 200% increase in jobs being deployed.

'We appreciate LeaseWeb's support and welcome them to the ASF Sponsorship program,' said David Nalley, Vice President of ASF Infrastructure. 'Their generous contribution will allow us to reduce some of our outlay on hardware and cloud services in the future.'
